Purpose
- TIG variant of the duplex 23Cr-8.5Ni-3Mo-N DPX 2209 wire/rod — same service for joining duplex stainless steel, for root passes and precision welds.
Why it works
Same alloy as FERVEO DPX 2209 MIG, in rod form for TIG (DC-, I1 gas) — fine weld-pool control, useful for root passes where the ferrite/austenite balance of the first pass is harder to control.
Fields of application
- Duplex steel 1.4347, 1.4417, 1.4460, 1.4462, 1.4582 and equivalents.
- Service from -10°C to +250°C; root passes and precision welds in chemical plants and offshore structures.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.

Advantages
- Good resistance to pitting and chloride stress-corrosion cracking.
- Precise weld-pool control — suited to root passes where the first pass's phase balance is critical.
- Defined service range (-10°C to +250°C) backed by the manufacturer.
Limitations
- The ferrite/austenite phase balance is sensitive to heat input — requires interpass temperature control to avoid losing toughness or corrosion resistance.
- Risk of sigma-phase and 475°C embrittlement under sustained exposure in the 300–1000°C range — not suited to continuous service in that range, nor outside the manufacturer's -10°C to +250°C service range.
