Purpose
- Thick-coated rutile electrode, the most widely used type among rutile electrodes (AWS E 6013, EN ISO E 42 0 RR 12) — general-purpose carbon-steel welding.
Why it works
The thick rutile coating gives an easy, stable arc strike with self-releasing slag and very little smoke and spatter — the combination that explains why this electrode type is the most common in manual shop welding.

- General carbon-steel fabrication (S235/S275 and equivalents), manual welding on AC or DC.

Advantages
- Easy arc strike and stable arc, with good bead appearance — suited to welders of all experience levels.
- Very low smoke and spatter formation.
Limitations
- Rutile coating — lower toughness and higher hydrogen content than a basic electrode; for toughness or cold-service demands, see the FERVEO STL B4/B5/B6 range.
