Classification

Purpose

  • Low-carbon rutile-basic Cr-Ni-Mo 18.7/12.5/3.2 electrode (E317L-16) — more molybdenum than INX 316L, for stainless steel under tougher corrosion demands.

Why it works

Low carbon cuts intergranular carbide precipitation WITHOUT needing stabilizers like niobium or titanium — it reaches the same intergranular corrosion resistance as a stabilized steel just by lowering carbon and raising molybdenum (3.2% vs the 316 family's 2.6–2.8%).

Fields of application

  • AISI 316L, 316Cb, 317, S31726 and equivalent higher-alloy Cr-Ni-Mo steels.
  • Environments with tougher corrosion demands than the 316 family.
