EN ISO classE 23 12 L R 32

Purpose

  • Same class as INX 309L R 16 (low-carbon Cr-Ni 23/13, buffer layers and dissimilar-steel joining), -17 coating variant.

Why it works

Same core and chemistry as INX 309L R 16; the -17 rutile coating variant is the catalog version for this diameter/packaging, with the same stated welding behavior.

Fields of application

  • Buffer layer over mild and low-alloy steel, before overlaying or cladding with any stainless electrode.
  • Joining stainless steel to mild or low-alloy steel, dissimilar steels, clad steels.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.

Advantages

  • Good cracking resistance with hard-to-weld steels.

Limitations

  • High ferrite content in the deposit: risk of sigma-phase embrittlement under sustained exposure at 600–900°C — not recommended for critical structures in that range.
