Classification

Purpose

  • Cr-Ni 23/12 rutile electrode, slightly higher carbon than INX 309L (0.06%), for higher tensile and hot creep strength.

Why it works

Same Cr-Ni 23/12 core as INX 309L, but with more carbon — the manufacturer states higher tensile and creep strength at elevated temperature compared with INX 309L R.

Fields of application

  • Joining of similar or dissimilar austenitic stainless steels.
  • High-strength unalloyed and heat-treatable steels, ferritic Cr steels, austenitic Cr-Ni and Mn steels.

Advantages

  • Higher tensile and hot creep strength than INX 309L R.

Limitations

  • Intended for continuous high-temperature service; if the part cools after prolonged exposure at 600–900°C, room-temperature toughness may drop due to sigma-phase formation.
