Purpose
- Low-hydrogen basic electrode with double the nickel of the 1NiMo sub-family (AWS E 9018-G H4, EN ISO E 55 6 2 NiMo BT 42 H5).
Why it works
Doubling nickel versus the 1NiMo sub-family (molybdenum held constant) further improves ductility and crack resistance at the same mechanical-strength step — useful on high-alloy fine-grained steels where the 1NiMo sub-family can fall short on toughness.
Fields of application
- High-strength, high-alloy fine-grained structural steel, with a declared service range of -60°C to +350°C — API 5L pipe up to X70.

Advantages
- Higher ductility and crack resistance than the 1NiMo sub-family, at the same mechanical-strength step.
- Declared service range of -60°C to +350°C.
Limitations
- Aimed at high-alloy fine-grained steel — for medium-alloy base steel, the 1NiMo sub-family is usually sufficient and more economical.
