Classification

Purpose

  • Manganese austenitic hardfacing electrode (~13.5% Mn · 3% Ni) for parts under severe impact: mining and rock-crushing equipment.
  • The deposit work-hardens in service: from 180–220 HB as-welded to ~550 HB under repeated impact.

Why it works

Manganese austenite work-hardens under impact (Hadfield effect): each blow compacts the working surface to ~550 HB while the core of the deposit stays tough and crack-free. That's why it holds up where a conventional hardfacing deposit would crack — jaws, hammers, crushing parts. And why machining has to happen before the deposit sees impact.

Fields of application

  • Hardfacing of mining and rock-crushing machine parts.
  • Direct buildup on hard manganese steels (12–14% Mn), no buffer layer needed.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.

Advantages

  • Work-hardens on its own, in service, up to ~550 HB.
  • Tough core: resists severe impact without cracking.
  • Applies directly onto Hadfield-type steels.

Limitations

  • Machinable only before the deposit has been cold-worked or put into service.
