Purpose
- TIG variant of the Co-Cr-W cobalt hardfacing COB 6 — same deposit (40 HRC), for root passes and precision layers.
Why it works
Same alloy as FERVEO COB 6, in rod form for TIG — fine weld-pool control, useful for precision hardfacing or small parts where a coated electrode is hard to handle.
Fields of application
- Valve seats, sleeves and sealing surfaces, hot cutting tools — precision hardfacing on small parts or difficult geometries.

Advantages
- Balance of hardness (40 HRC), toughness, and corrosion resistance — the most versatile grade in the FERVEO COB family.
- Precise weld-pool control — suited to small parts or difficult geometries where a coated electrode doesn't reach well.
Limitations
- Lower hardness than COB 12/COB 1 — those variants perform better under pure abrasive wear.
- As with any cobalt-based hardfacing, the first pass dilutes with the base metal — full hardness and resistance are only reached from the second layer on.
