Purpose
- Cobalt-based Co-Cr-W hardfacing electrode (AWS E CoCr-A, EN ISO E Co 2), 42 HRC — the most balanced of the FERVEO COB family between hardness, toughness, and corrosion resistance.
Why it works
The family's mid-range carbon and tungsten content (1.1% C · 4% W) balances hard carbides against a tough cobalt matrix — making it the general-purpose reference for hardfacing where combined resistance to metal-to-metal wear, corrosion, and temperature is needed.
Fields of application
- Valve seats, sleeves and sealing surfaces, hot cutting tools, parts with metal-to-metal wear combined with corrosion or temperature.

Advantages
- Balance of hardness (42 HRC), toughness, and corrosion resistance — the most versatile grade in the FERVEO COB family.
- Good resistance to metal-to-metal wear (galling) and high-temperature oxidation.
- Grindable/machinable after hardfacing.
Limitations
- Lower hardness than COB 12/COB 1 — those variants perform better under pure abrasive wear.
- As with any cobalt-based hardfacing, the first pass dilutes with the base metal — full hardness and resistance are only reached from the second layer on.
