Classification

Purpose

  • Heat-resistant W-V solid TIG rod (S Fe 3), high wear resistance and very good tempering resistance.
  • Surfacing and repair of hot-work tooling on unalloyed or low-alloy steel.

Why it works

Elevated tungsten (4.05%) is the dominant element in this alloy, unlike the chromium or molybdenum of this datasheet's other TLS rods — the as-deposited (unannealed) microstructure is martensitic with retained austenite and carbides, a structure the manufacturer documents as heat-resistant with very good tempering resistance.

Fields of application

  • Surfacing and repair of hot-work tooling on unalloyed or low-alloy steel.
  • Parts where tempering resistance under repeated thermal cycling is critical.

Advantages

  • Very good tempering resistance — holds hardness under repeated thermal cycling.
  • Tungsten as the dominant element — a different wear profile from the rest of the TLS line.

Limitations

  • Supplier datasheet gives no HRC/HB hardness data — only the microstructure (martensite with retained austenite and carbides) is documented.
