Purpose

  • Cr-Mo solid TIG rod (S Fe 3) for surfacing hot-work tool steel, 52-57 HRC hardness.
  • Repair and new manufacture of tooling for service up to 500°C: continuous-casting rolls, hot-shear blades, die-casting molds, dies.

Why it works

Chromium (5%) and molybdenum (1.1%) on a medium-high carbon base (0.38%) produce a martensitic deposit with stable secondary hardness at elevated service temperature — this tempering resistance is what lets the die hold its hardness through repeated heating cycles in service, instead of softening after the first few hours of use.

Fields of application

  • Continuous-casting rolls, hot-shear blades, die-casting molds, dies.
  • Repair and new manufacture of hot-work tooling for service up to 500°C.

Advantages

  • Stable secondary hardness — resists tempering through repeated in-service heating cycles.
  • Continuous service up to 500°C.

Limitations

  • Hardness (52-57 HRC) lower than TLS 2606 or TLS 3348 — not this datasheet's highest-wear-resistance option.
