Purpose
- Fe-Ni-Cr-Mo-Cu solid wire (alloy 825) for joining and surfacing alloy 825 and CrNiMoCu austenitic steels.
- Good corrosion resistance in sulfuric and phosphoric acid media.
Why it works
Copper (2.5%) added to an Fe-Ni-Cr-Mo base is what sets this alloy apart — like the copper in CUP 28 (the INX superaustenitic line), it specifically improves behavior against sulfuric acid, while molybdenum (3.1%) provides pitting resistance in chlorides.
Fields of application
- Joining and surfacing alloy 825 (2.4858, UNS N08825).
- CrNiMoCu austenitic steels in process equipment handling sulfuric or phosphoric acid.

Advantages
- Copper (2.5%) specifically improves resistance to sulfuric and phosphoric acid.
- Good strength-ductility balance (Rm 550 MPa, A5 30%).
Limitations
- Supplier datasheet gives no shielding-gas data (MIG or TIG) — confirm parameters with the manufacturer before welding.
- Iron-base alloy (not nickel-base) — lower high-temperature resistance than this datasheet's NiCr/NiCrMo alloys.
