Classification

Material no. (W.-Nr.)1.4459

Purpose

  • Low-carbon Cr-Ni-Mo 22/14/2.6 solid wire, for joining unalloyed/low-alloy steel to corrosion-resistant stainless steel.

Why it works

Adds molybdenum (2.6%) to the 309LSi base — same intermediate-layer and dissimilar-steel joining role, with higher corrosion resistance than the Mo-free variant.

Fields of application

  • Joining unalloyed or low-alloy steel to corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
  • Intermediate layers in dissimilar-steel joining.

Cross-reference

Replaces INERTFIL 309LMo (Oerlikon)Direct replacement

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.

Advantages

  • Additional molybdenum (2.6%) — higher corrosion resistance than INX 309LSi.
  • Weldable in MIG/MAG and also in TIG.

Limitations

  • High ferrite content in the deposit: risk of sigma-phase embrittlement under sustained exposure at 600–900°C — not recommended for critical structures in that range.
