Purpose
- TIG variant of the Co-Cr-W cobalt hardfacing COB 12 — same deposit (47 HRC), for root passes and precision layers.
Why it works
Same alloy as FERVEO COB 12, in rod form for TIG — fine weld-pool control, useful for high-hardness precision hardfacing on small parts or difficult geometries.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.
Advantages
- Higher hardness and abrasion resistance than COB 6.
- Precise weld-pool control — suited to small parts or difficult geometries where a coated electrode doesn't reach well.
Limitations
- More brittle than COB 6 — higher cracking risk; requires preheating and controlled cooling, especially on rigid or thick-section parts.
- As with any cobalt-based hardfacing, the first pass dilutes with the base metal — full hardness and resistance are only reached from the second layer on.
