Purpose

  • Ni-Co-Mo-Ti solid wire (Werkstoff 1.6356), precipitation-hardening maraging steel, Rm 980 MPa.
  • Wear-resistant surfacing of stamping, drawing and bending tools; reinforcing cutting edges.

Why it works

Unlike the rest of the TLS line (medium-high carbon plus Cr/Mo/W forming carbides), this alloy is an age-hardenable maraging steel: near-zero carbon (0.005%) on a Ni-Co-Mo-Ti base that hardens through intermetallic precipitation during a subsequent heat treatment, not through carbides — the result is a high-strength deposit (Rm 980 MPa) with good weldability onto high-strength steels.

Fields of application

  • Wear-resistant surfacing of stamping, drawing and bending tools.
  • Reinforcing cutting edges on dies and cold shears; joining high-strength steels.

Advantages

  • Highest mechanical strength in the TLS line (Rm 980 MPa) via precipitation hardening.
  • Good weldability onto high-strength steels — unlike other high-hardness alloys, it doesn't rely on brittle carbides.

Limitations

  • Final strength depends on a subsequent age-hardening heat treatment — as-welded, it doesn't reach its full potential.
