Purpose

  • Cr-Mo-V-W solid TIG rod (S Fe 3) for repairing hot-work tooling, 57-60 HRC hardness.
  • Surfacing cutting edges of hot- and cold-work tools on unalloyed steel.

Why it works

Vanadium (0.35%) and tungsten (1.3%) added onto the same Cr-Mo base as TLS 2343 raise hardness (57-60 HRC versus 52-57 HRC) — used specifically to reinforce cutting edges, where higher hardness matters more than resistance to thermal cracking.

Fields of application

  • Repair of hot-shear blades, hot-cutting dies, die-casting tools, rolling mandrels, deburring tools.
  • Surfacing cutting edges of hot- and cold-work tools on unalloyed steel.

Advantages

  • Higher hardness than TLS 2343 (57-60 HRC versus 52-57 HRC) from the V and W addition.
  • Suitable for both hot-work and cold-work tooling.

Limitations

  • Higher hardness means lower thermal-cracking resistance than TLS 2343 — not the first choice under a very severe thermal cycle.
