Classification

Purpose

  • Titanium-bearing variant of the TLS 2367 wire, intermediate 42-47 HRC hardness — harder than the base grade without giving up all its toughness.
  • Surfacing hot-work tool steel that needs a hardness-toughness balance, service up to 550°C.

Why it works

Titanium (0.65%) and somewhat higher carbon than TLS 2367 (0.25% versus 0.1%) raise hardness to 42-47 HRC while keeping much of the base grade's toughness — a middle ground between TLS 2367 (tougher, 37-42 HRC) and TLS 2606 (harder, 57-60 HRC, less tough).

Fields of application

  • Surfacing and new manufacture of hot-work tooling for service up to 550°C.
  • Parts needing a hardness-toughness balance, without going to the extremes of TLS 2367 or TLS 2606.

Advantages

  • Intermediate hardness-toughness point between TLS 2367 and TLS 2606 — more versatile when the service cycle isn't precisely known.
  • Continuous service up to 550°C.

Limitations

  • Neither TLS 2367's peak toughness nor TLS 2606's peak hardness — a compromise option, not the best at either extreme.
