Classification

Purpose

  • Low-hardness, high-toughness Cr-Mo solid wire (S Fe 13), 37-42 HRC hardness.
  • Surfacing hot-work tool steel that demands high toughness, service up to 550°C.

Why it works

The deliberately low carbon (0.1%, the lowest in the TLS line) trades hardness for toughness — the right choice when the part sees impact or severe thermal cycling, where a crack is costlier than moderate wear, unlike TLS 3348 or TLS 2606 where hardness is prioritized over toughness.

Fields of application

  • Surfacing and new manufacture of hot-work tooling for service up to 550°C.
  • Parts under impact or severe thermal cycling where toughness matters more than hardness.

Advantages

  • Highest toughness in the TLS line — lower cracking risk under impact or thermal shock.
  • Continuous service up to 550°C.

Limitations

  • Lowest hardness in the TLS line (37-42 HRC) — not the highest-wear-resistance option.
