Purpose

  • Commercially pure titanium TIG rod (AWS ER Ti 2) — welding pure titanium and titanium alloys of medium strength and good elongation (3.7025, 3.7031, 3.7035, 3.7051).

Why it works

Commercially pure titanium with no strengthening alloy additions gives a ductile, medium-strength deposit — the reference choice for pure titanium and equivalent alloys where ductility matters more than maximum strength.

Fields of application

  • Pure titanium and medium-strength titanium alloys (3.7025, 3.7031, 3.7035, 3.7051).

Advantages

  • Good ductility (20% elongation) for pure titanium and equivalent alloys.
  • Reference choice for commercially pure titanium — no strengthening additions to complicate welding.

Limitations

  • Titanium reacts with atmospheric oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen above ~500°C — beyond the torch shielding gas, it requires additional trailing and backing gas coverage on the root and the hot zone behind the weld pool; a bead that turns yellow, blue, or grey indicates contamination and toughness loss.
  • Moderate mechanical strength (Rm 395–540 MPa) — for higher structural demands, FERVEO TIT 5 performs better.
