Purpose
- Precipitation-hardenable Ni-Cr-Fe-Nb solid TIG rod (alloy 718), for joining alloy 718, 706 and X750.
- Mechanical properties comparable to the base metal after age-hardening heat treatment.
Why it works
Niobium (5%) together with Ti/Al forms intermetallic precipitates (γ'' phase) during a subsequent age-hardening heat treatment — the weld itself stays relatively soft and only reaches its final strength (comparable to the base metal) after that treatment, unlike this datasheet's other NiCr alloys which reach their full strength already as-welded.
Fields of application
- Joining alloy 718, 706 and X750.
- Components requiring high mechanical strength after age-hardening heat treatment (aerospace, turbines).

Advantages
- Precipitation-hardenable — reaches mechanical properties comparable to the base metal after aging.

Limitations
- Requires a subsequent age-hardening heat treatment to reach final strength — as-welded, it sits below its potential.
