Purpose
- Low-cracking-tendency Ni-Cr-Fe solid wire (alloy 690), developed for nuclear reactor coolant system components.
- Weld cladding on carbon steel for its excellent resistance to stress-corrosion cracking.
Why it works
The elevated chromium (28.5%, the highest in this datasheet) combined with a low hot-cracking tendency makes this alloy the reference filler for weld cladding on Ni-Cr-Fe nuclear reactor components — the same high chromium that gives stress-corrosion resistance also improves weldability on homogeneous passes.

Advantages
- Low hot-cracking tendency — good weldability on homogeneous passes.
- Excellent resistance to stress-corrosion cracking.
Limitations
- Lowest ductility among this datasheet's NiCr family (A5 20%) — compare with NIC 82 (A5 40%) if the application doesn't specifically call for alloy 690.
