Material no. (W.-Nr.)2.4155

Purpose

  • Essentially pure nickel solid TIG rod (Ti-deoxidized) for welding Nickel 200/201 and dissimilar high-nickel joints.
  • Joining Nickel 200/201 to stainless steel, carbon steel and cupro-nickel alloys.

Why it works

Titanium (3%) acts as a deoxidizer and grain stabilizer in an essentially unalloyed nickel matrix — necessary because pure nickel is especially prone to porosity from dissolved sulfur and oxygen, an issue the higher-chromium NiCr alloys in this datasheet don't have.

Fields of application

  • Welding Nickel 200/201 and equivalent alloys (2.4060, 2.4061, 2.4066).
  • Dissimilar joining of Nickel 200/201 to stainless steel, carbon steel and cupro-nickel alloys.

Advantages

  • Broad compatibility: pure nickel, stainless steel, carbon steel and cupro-nickel in the same dissimilar joint.
  • Ti deoxidizer reduces the porosity typical of pure nickel.

Limitations

  • Does not add mechanical or chemical resistance beyond this datasheet's NiCr/NiCrMo alloys — a pure-nickel-specific filler.
