Purpose
- Solid Ni-Cu rod (Monel type) for joining nickel-copper alloys (NiCu30Fe, 2.4360) and dissimilar copper-steel joints.
- Also used as an intermediate (buffer) layer before surfacing.
Why it works
The Ni-Cu base with Ti/Al deoxidizers produces a ductile deposit compatible with both Monel base metal and copper — titanium helps control porosity, a common issue when welding copper-nickel alloys.
Fields of application
- Joining nickel-copper alloys (Monel 400 / 2.4360).
- Dissimilar copper-to-steel welding and buffer layers before surfacing.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.
Base metals
2.4360
Advantages
- Ductile deposit (A5 35%), compatible with Monel and copper.
- Ti/Al reduce the porosity typical of Ni-Cu alloys.
Limitations
- Limited to Ni-Cu-base alloy service or as a transition layer — not a general-purpose filler.
