Classification

AWS classER 309 LSi

Material no. (W.-Nr.)1.4332

Purpose

  • Low-carbon Cr-Ni 24.5/13.5 solid wire for joining unalloyed and low-alloy steel to stainless steel resistant to intergranular corrosion up to 300°C.

Why it works

The wire version (MIG/MAG, also TIG) of the 309L class — like the electrode, it works as an intermediate layer and for joining dissimilar steels, with low carbon to avoid stainless sensitization.

Fields of application

  • DIN 1.4583, 1.4710, 1.4729, 1.4740, 1.4825, 1.4828, 1.4878 (heat-resistant steels and castings).
  • Intermediate layers and dissimilar-steel joining.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.

Advantages

  • Corrosion resistant up to 300°C.
  • Weldable in MIG/MAG and also in TIG.

Limitations

  • High ferrite content in the deposit: risk of sigma-phase embrittlement under sustained exposure at 600–900°C — not recommended for critical structures in that range.
