Classification

AWS classE 7018-G H4
EN ISO classE 42 6 1 Ni B 32 H5

Purpose

  • Nickel-alloyed, low-hydrogen basic electrode (H4) for high-strength structural steels (AWS E 7018-G H4, EN ISO E 42 6 1 Ni B 32 H5) — the entry step of the FERVEO HTS ladder.

Why it works

A small nickel addition versus a conventional basic electrode improves low-temperature toughness of the deposit without penalizing mechanical strength; the low-hydrogen basic coating keeps diffusible hydrogen under control. It is usable on DC(-) for root-pass welding, with deep penetration especially in the vertical-up position.

Fields of application

  • Fabrication of high-strength steel structures and API 5L pipe (grades A-X60), where the welded joint needs good low-temperature toughness.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.

Advantages

  • Dual polarity DC(+)/DC(-) — the root pass can run on DC(-) with a short arc and deep penetration, especially vertical-up.
  • Higher deposit recovery than a conventional basic electrode, with the productivity edge that gives in series production.

Limitations

  • For higher mechanical-strength duty, see the upper steps of the FERVEO HTS ladder (460/500/550 and above).
