Purpose
- Manganese/calcium-silicate submerged-arc (SAW) flux, basicity 1.0 — 2-pass welding of thick plate (10-40 mm), with high resistance to porosity from oil and rust contamination.
Why it works
The manganese-silicate/calcium-silicate slag system is noticeably more tolerant of oil and rust residue on the plate than the family's aluminate- or fluoride-basic grades — useful when plate cleanliness isn't perfect, at the cost of lower basicity (less multi-pass toughness) than those grades.
Fields of application
- Thick plate (10-40 mm) using a 2-pass technique, general fabrication where perfect surface cleanliness can't be guaranteed.

Advantages
- High resistance to porosity from oil or rust contamination — more forgiving of imperfect plate cleanliness than the family's basic grades.
- High current-carrying capacity.
Limitations
- Lower basicity than the aluminate/fluoride-basic grades — for maximum multi-pass toughness on demanding steel, FERVEO FLX BFB/BFF are the better choice.
