Purpose
- TIG rod for the highest-alloyed Co-Cr-W cobalt hardfacing in the family (AWS ER CoCr-C), 54 HRC — for valve and fitting seats and surfaces under high temperature, pressure, corrosion, and metal-to-metal sliding.
Why it works
The highest carbon and tungsten content in the whole FERVEO COB family (2.5% C · 12% W) gives the highest density of hard carbides — maximum hardness and abrasion resistance, but the most brittle deposit in the family.
Fields of application
- Hardfacing valve and fitting seats and surfaces exposed to high temperature, pressure, and corrosion.
- Cutting tools, screw conveyors, wear rings, and guide rails subject to metal-to-metal sliding.

Equivalence refers to the classification (AWS / EN ISO), not to product identity. In applications with a qualified procedure (WPS), validate the substitution before use.
Advantages
- The highest hardness and abrasion resistance in the FERVEO COB family.
- Good resistance to temperature, pressure, and corrosion in service — manufacturer-validated for valves and fittings.
Limitations
- The most brittle in the FERVEO COB family — higher cracking risk than COB 6/COB 12; requires preheating and controlled cooling, especially on rigid or thick-section parts.
- As with any cobalt-based hardfacing, the first pass dilutes with the base metal — full hardness and resistance are only reached from the second layer on.
