Purpose

  • Low-hydrogen basic (H4), low-carbon electrode, 2.2% Cr–1% Mo (AWS E8018-B3L H4, EN ISO E CrMo2L B 42 H5) — the low-carbon variant of the FERVEO CMO 2 family, for more ductile, less hard deposits.

Why it works

Reduced carbon (0.04%, versus ≈0.07% for the rest of the FERVEO CMO 2 family) gives a more ductile, less hard deposit than the standard versions — the manufacturer recommends preheating and post-weld heat treatment for this grade, with more demanding thermal control during welding than the family's standard versions.

Fields of application

  • 2% Cr–1% Mo heat-resistant steels (P22 grade and equivalents) where deposit ductility matters more than maximum mechanical strength.

Advantages

  • More ductile, less hard deposit than the standard versions of the FERVEO CMO 2 family, thanks to the low carbon content.

Limitations

  • Requires preheating and post-weld heat treatment during the process — more demanding thermal control than the family's standard versions.
  • If you don't specifically need a low-hardness deposit, the family's standard versions (FERVEO CMO 2B HD P2/2B HD P2 15) are the default choice.
