Purpose
- Low-hydrogen basic electrode (H4), 1.1% Cr–0.5% Mo (AWS E8015-B2 H4, EN ISO E CrMo1 B 42 H5) — same CrMo1 grade as FERVEO CMO 1B HD P2 80, for Cr-Mo steel boilers and steam piping.
Why it works
Adding chromium to molybdenum steps up creep and hot-oxidation resistance versus the FERVEO CMO Mo family; the low-hydrogen basic coating (H4) protects the joint against cold cracking. Suited to short-arc root passes with good penetration.
Fields of application
- Cr-Mo steel boilers and steam piping, and cementation/nitrided steels.
- High-responsibility root passes, thanks to good short-arc penetration.

Advantages
- Low diffusible hydrogen (H4) — minimal cold-cracking risk in the thick sections typical of boilers and steam piping.
- Good penetration on short-arc root passes.
Limitations
- Same CrMo1 grade as FERVEO CMO 1B HD P2 80 — choosing between the two comes down to the AWS classification required by the qualified WPS, not a meaningful performance difference.
- For higher temperature or pressure duty, see the higher steps of the FERVEO CMO family (2/5/9/91).
