Purpose
- Al-Mg (4.5% Mg + Mn/Cr) solid TIG rod with higher mechanical strength than ALU 5356, for marine and demanding welded structure.
- Service from -196°C to 80°C.
Why it works
Mn and Cr added alongside the Mg (4.5%) raise mechanical strength (Rm 300 MPa, the highest among this datasheet's standard Al-Mg rods) versus ALU 5356 — a common combination in shipbuilding and mechanically demanding welded aluminum structures.
Fields of application
- Marine structure and mechanically demanding welded aluminum structure.
- Joining aluminum-magnesium alloys (DIN 3.2315, 3.3206, 3.3210 and equivalents).

Advantages
- Higher mechanical strength (Rm 300 MPa) than ALU 5356.
- Suitable for cryogenic service down to -196°C.
Limitations
- Maximum documented service 80°C, lower than ALU 5356 (100°C) — with 4.5% Mg, sensitization risk at sustained elevated temperature is higher.
- Lower ductility (A5 20%) than ALU 5356 (A5 25%).
